    Perfect Timing

After my last device review of the Nokia E71X, I realized “hey, I kind of like reviewing devices.” So the devices team at AT&T sent me a Samsung Eternity so I could try out the new Mobile TV feature. I was hesitant at first because I’ve never been a fan of the typical TV feature options on devices. I’m a “now” person. Need everything live and now. The buffering on other devices would drive me nuts and it was always just clips, not the full show, which just didn’t work for me.  Funny enough, we were in the process of moving when I received the Samsung Eternity and therefore had no TV at the new place yet. After keeping my 8 year old busy for most of the day, I was dying for some TV time when I realized I had TV in my pocket all along! The Mobile TV feature could not have come at a better time!

So Johnny and I both had our turns watching Mobile TV on the device. It was so awesome, neither of us wanted to give it up. It was just as if we were watching TV on our home television. First, it has a guide with the channel, time and show listed, just like we’re used to having at home on a regular TV.  You could look to see what’s on or scroll ahead to see what’s coming.  Second, it had a lot of major channels – 14 channels currently.  It covers everything from news, primetime, kids to sports channels.  Third, no buffering!!!  Yea!!!  It was live, like normal TV! It also has parent controls and left me wondering, why don’t I have Mobile TV on my current personal device? This is so cool! The only thing it didn’t have is my DVR, which we know I’m addicted to.

The one drawback I came across was having to hold the device for so long. I needed a holder or something to keep it propped while watching TV.

Anyway, I have to say I was very impressed with Mobile TV and I’m planning to do a video review of the feature soon so you guys can actually see it for yourselves. I hope to see this feature enhanced and offered on more devices in the future.

Where would you see yourself using Mobile TV?
