Before I begin driving here are some things I do to lessen my urge to text while I drive, which you might find helpful:
1. Turn the phone off so there are no incoming calls or texts to distract you.
2. Before you start driving place your phone in a place you won’t be tempted to reach.
3. Put in your favorite CD or try an education CD. I have had a goal to learn Spanish for 5 yrs now. Just remember to keep your concentration on the road.
4. Use as quiet time to reflect on the day or mentally plan a significant event. And of course, always remember to keep your concentration on the road
5. Have a conversation with other people in the car or if you are in the car alone, listen to a talk show that stirs some emotional interest. Just be sure to stay focused on the road.
What tips do you have?

I’ll leave mine “on,” but I don’t text. I do put it on the charger usually which makes it difficult to even use.
Gracias! (since you’re learning Spanish)
