Mobile Phones on the Family Vacation

My family and I just returned from our summer vacation to New York City and Martha’s Vineyard.  I never realized how dependent our children are on their mobile phones until last week.

My son accidentally left his mobile phone at a relative’s house who we had visited. As a result, he was without the ability to text or call the majority of his friends for one week. He was basically cut off from his inner circle. And, needless to say, was not happy about it.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I never thought of communicating with friends while on vacation.  Today, our children are dependent on their mobile devices as this is their world … even while on vacation!

We’ve had to turn the car around plenty of times when a cell phone’s been forgotten. Oh, the horror of an afternoon without a million texts! :-)

It’s not just the tweens, teens and younger adults. It’s the “older” adults as well. My wife and I would be lost without our cells. They are attached at the hand.

Michael, my son left his cell phone at home when he flew to Wisconsin a few weeks ago. Cost me $40 to Fed Ex it to him next day! It’s the end of the world as we know it- if they don’t have their cell to stay connected! :D

Mobile phone growth has a serious impact in the young generation lives. For My son living without a cell phone is hardly impossible.
