The house my husband and I bought after our third child did not have an intercom system. So, when we needed one of the kids, we’d summon the child nearest and ask them to get their sibling. Or, we’d go to the basement door or the bottom of the stairs and yell as loud as we could. This is called the “yelling system.”
Over the past few years, things have changed. The cell phone has become our new intercom system. We now have four kids, and three of them have cell phones. No more yelling to get their attention. When I need to reach them in some other part of the house or outside the house, I just pick up my cell phone and call them. It is so easy, because each of them is assigned a single letter for speed dialing. When they are in the house I usually call them. When they are out at the mall, the movies, or the gym, I usually send them a text message. For my kids, the cell phone is a part of their wardrobe; therefore it goes wherever they are. Reaching them via their cell phone is a sure way to get a response. The only caveat is to make sure the kids have a voice or text package to accommodate the intercom services mentioned above. You may have not thought about it, but you may be doing the same thing in your household. Has the cell phone become your intercom system as well, especially if you have teenagers and more than one floor in your home?

16Shopping made easy
So blogs are typically short entries, right? This should be interesting for me because once I get on a roll talking (or writing in this case!) I can go on forever. I’ll do my best to be brief.
I absolutely love my device (a work-provided BlackBerry Bold)! I could not live without it. It keeps me connected to everything that is important and necessary in my life, both personally and professionally. Let me tell you how dependent I’ve become on the picture messaging option on my BlackBerry. It was a recent Saturday and I had to work. My husband took over the duty of picking up a couple gifts for me that day. Well, throughout the day (ok SEVERAL times throughout the day) I would check it and at one point he was asking which size of an item to get. I couldn’t picture the size difference just by his words, so finally I told him to send me a picture. So he snapped a picture and sent it on over. Within a couple minutes, I’d made my decision, and he was out of there (which made him VERY happy because he was DONE!). It was great because neither of us were frustrated because I couldn’t visualize the items. It made for a smooth shopping experience for both of us!

10I love my GPS
Hi there! So even though I LOVE technology and am always excited to see and use the latest that’s out there, I have to tell you, it took me a while to get on board with the GPS navigation feature on my phone. My husband kept telling me to try it, but I kept printing directions from Yahoo or Google maps. Then one day, on a business trip to Salt Lake City, I’d landed pretty late and once in my rental car I realized… oh you guessed it … I hadn’t printed directions! So I call my husband, and being the patient man he is, I ask him to pull up directions and e-mail them to me. He used that opportunity to get me to try the AT&T Navigator. So, I did and loved it! No more remembering to print and carry directions and then have them available at the right time (and not in your suitcase, in the trunk of the rental after you’ve pulled out of the rental car facility and already entered traffic … yeah, did that too!). I have not printed directions since then and rely solely on my phone’s GPS. This is yet another reason why I can’t live without my device!

9Picture Quality is Important
One of the things I love about my Palm® Centro is the picture quality. It’s great. It totally makes my day to receive a picture of my youngest granddaughter showing me what she is playing with, or my son to send me a picture of himself at lunch with his friends. It’s a great way for working moms to stay connected.
